FANTASTIC, early German "jack-in-the-box" style papiermache SANTA with very detailed molded & painted features (wrinkles, prominent cheeks, etc.), closed mouth with beard and mustache and wearing his original, evenly faded red flannel hooded suit trimmed with white felt and mounted on cloth covered heavy spring inside a wonderfully decorated wooden box with lid and brass clasp, c.1880. Box measures five inches, square (9 1/2" high opened) Extremely rare and all original "Father Christmas" toy. Excellent condition
