WONDERFUL, ANTIQUE, Germany, c.1890, large SANTA with REINDEER papiermache candy container, all original, without repairs and in excellent condition. Reindeer measures 11" long and 10" high with removable head for storage of candies and gifts. The reindeer is covered with realistic velveteen fabric as are his perfect ears, glass eyes, leather bridle and reins. Seated upon his back is a large papiermache figure of St. Nicholas with realistically painted features, cotton beard, red hooded jacket with white trim, BLUE trousers and large black boots, carrying a Christmas tree. Reindeer has wooden feet with painted hooves & wonderful metal antlers painted to match his body, metal roundels on the harness and metal head plate between the antlers. FANTASTIC piece of Christmas tradition, well preserved.
