Another early, unusual version, c.1940s, of this popular childhood character toy is this 19" long, composition head and straw-filled "Howdy Doody" ventriloquist doll. He has molded and painted brown hair with side part and lots of matching freckles with large, brown, side-glancing eyes, a moving mouth (pull-string missing). His hands are composition and his body and legs are straw-filled cotton (straight with no shaped feet). He wears his original red cotton trousers with plaid shirt and scarf and has some overall paint crazing with some paint flakes in his hair.
