VERY UNUSUAL, c.1940, pair of twin wax (soap) babies in their original, 6 1/2", blue & white, straw basket* tied with the original wide blue satin ribbon and pink card that reads as follows: "Dear Friend, I saw your face so kind, And thought you really wouldn't mind, If I left my babies outside your door, Oh, keep them, I implore! Their mother please do not condemn, For her seeming negligence. She's busy working all day long-- For Victory and Defense! What a great momento from a long, forgotten time. The babies are each about 4" long, wearing tiny ruffled bonnets, each has her hand in her mouth with side-glancing eyes and are beautifully molded with lots of chubby rolls and dimples. *basket stamped in blue:Indochina Such a sweet item in excellent condition. How can you resist their cute little faces?
