Wonderful, early, c.1869, Joel Ellis doll carriage with curved bottom, shaped foot and low sides enclosing leather upholstered, plank seat. Has original, matching leather collapsible hood attached to two arched wooden supports, long curved wooden handle and turned push bar. One small spoked wooden wheel at front with pair of large spoked wooden wheels at rear. Has all original orange paint with blue stencilling and matching blue on wheels UNCOMMON and considered RARE and DESIRABLE as shown and described in "Knopf Collectors' Guides to American Antiques TOYS". Totally excellent condition. Also shown on page 71, Nov. 1990, "Doll Reader" as part of the Lawrence Scripps Wilkinson collection, Detroit Historical Museum and made by Ellis, Britton & Eaton, Springfield, Vt., c.1865.
