11 1/2" tall, composition, "Baby Grumpy" Pennsylvania Dutch BRETHREN sect lady doll as shown on page 183, "10th Blue Book"-Foulke, also in a detailed article in "Focusing On Effanbee Dolls"-Foulke, pages 19-20. She wears a grey dress with matching shawl, long grey apron, white cap covered by her dark brown bonnet, long white slip and panties, white socks & black shoes. Her hair is light brown, painted features with side-glancing eyes, cloth torso with full composition arms and legs (some paint flaking-not distracting) and she wears her original green wrist-tag stamped: BRETHREN, Pennsylvania Dutch Dolls by Mary Polack Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. and carries the orig. leaflet, c.1936, describing the origin & religious beliefs of these Plain People, the RIVER BRETHREN. Very good condition.
