28" tall, early so-called French papiermache shoulderhead female doll, although it may have actually been produced c.1840-50 in the Nurnberg area of Germany (see p. 39, "Wonderful Dolls of Papiermache"-Gerken). She has a very rounded head with shorter neck and deep shoulderplate, detailed, blue painted eyes, short windblown, curly black hair with lots of brush marks and fully exposed ears, all original finish throughout with faint craze lines and pictured on same page as mentioned above. Wonderful original, cloth straw-stuffed body with cloth lower legs an original leather lower arms with individual fingers, original long knit stockings, undies, lovely antique calico dress with long sleeves. Wonderful example of early doll. Looks like doll shown on p.322, 9th Blue Book but does not have glass eyes or pierced nostrils. Small piece missing from side of lower plate-covered.
