22" tall, EARLY, cloth, commercially made, CLOWN. Very unusual type of face with pronounced and shaped nose and chin, painted features and makeup. The mitt-type hands have separate thumbs & the feet are made rather differently with an extra seam. His clothing is all original and extremely old in shades of turkey red and green, faded into stripes. Since the back of the suit is still unfaded it could be unstitched at the neck and simply turned around as it is a large, gathered suit with long sleeves & legs. Quite CHARMING & UNUSUAL, c.1890, cloth toy similar to PUNCH or SLIVERS as on page 104 of "Cloth Dolls"-Anderton. You'll love him. Very folky. Twill cloth.
