14" tall, wonderful, EARLY, ALABAMA BABY, c.1900, by Ella Gant Smith of Roanoke, Alabama and differentiated by the sitiched-in crown to the top of her head and her applied ears. She has large, brown painted eyes, lashes and closed mouth, brown painted hair (Kathe Kruse-style) with oil painting extending to just below the shoulders, oil painted legs with blue painted hightop boots (toes worn thru), painted lower arms with old cloth mitts covering her fingers, sturdy cloth-stuffed body with jointed legs and arms, (very faint stamp on torso). She wears original, blue printed dress with self belt and inset neckline. Charming, early example in adorable size, she has general wear as noted and a paint (only) split along the outside of the right cheek (similar to a craze if it was a composition doll). See "Amer.Rag Dolls"-Patino, larger examples. Greatly resembles Izanna Walker. We will be listing an equally RARE Rollinson baby-these look WONDERFUL together!
